communication matters

Hi CRW Family,

Ah! Communication and the art of effective listening. It’s a dying art unfortunately. I think I’m going to Dive in on this topic. A lot of my clients have always shared their past experiences with companies and businesses that don’t have great communication. This is a pet peeve for me. I am always a person who is probably a little too open but a person that loves to communicate. My brides and my clients always get full access to me. That means they can call me, text me, inbox me, and email me. And it doesn’t matter what I’m doing or where I’m at, I will try my best to respond as soon as possible. Definitely not going more than 12 to 24 hours without some type of reply back to them. It’s unacceptable.

Communication isn’t just the act of communicating it’s also making sure the party who you are communicating to is understanding the communication that has just occurred. A lot of times people are saying things and it’s not being interpreted or understood by the party in which needs to be informed. So if you believe you had a conversation but the understanding and the knowledge of what just happened is still unclear, then you did not have a conversation. You just were talking. So it’s best practice to always repeat back what you just heard and make sure that what you interpret it as IS what’s actually being said. That goes for timelines, budget, agreements, and declines. That’s why I always try to follow up with an email or a question just to make sure that we’re all on the same page. Now, this could take some time to really become better at. It also takes practice and by practice I mean being intentional and how you communicate to people. That means taking a break or pause to actually think about what you’re going to say and making sure that you are utilizing the best words to describe what you’re trying to imply. Now for some people this could be difficult because you believe you speak clearly and communicate effectively however on the other side the person who is listening may not be an active listener so you need to lessen the gap between the two. Especially in business deals, you want everything in writing and you want to follow up as much in print or text communication. It’s the best safety measure for protecting you and for protecting them. So in short, listen, repeat, and follow back up just to be sure all is understood.
